On March 18th, Global Recycling Day, the Committee of PET Manufacturer’s in Europe (CPME) would like to highlight that in 2020 the total collection of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) from Municipal Waste in Europe exceeded 2.0 million tons and that some members of CPME have already incorporated post-consumer PET resin in their formulations.
PET is a unique type of recyclable plastic, commonly used for soft drink and water bottles.
The collection of PET bottles will grow from 60% in Europe today to 90% by 2029 and the industry will be facilitated by EU regulation.
Consumers should be aware that the plastic bottles they hold are not only the most recycled plastic packaging in Europe but are the most recycled packaging in the world. Once collected, PET bottles are easily recycled into new bottles or textiles.
Recycling delivers fewer greenhouse gases, optimizes resource use whilst reducing waste, declared Antonello Ciotti, CPME Chairman.
